About

Sarah is currently a student at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. She will graduate in May 2010 with a BS degree in Photography and a minor in Psychology. Sarah’s start in photography, however, did not begin in Warrensburg. She was given her first camera at the age of twelve, and as her mother would tell you, “the rest was history.” Sarah immediately fell in love with the camera and the beauty she could both capture and create with it. Sarah uses her camera as her paint brush, she is an artist at heart and her photographs show her artistic vision.

It was not until later in her high school years, however, that she was able to fully realize her love of the field. Most of the persons associated with the high school, saw her as the girl behind the camera at every event from theatrical plays to the big Friday night football games. Many of the most vivid memories she has from her four years at Jefferson City High School were made behind the camera. Sarah spent three years photographing anything and everything for the high school’s student newspaper, Red and Black. In this setting, Sarah experienced the world of photo journalism and sports photography, but at that same time she previewed the world of portrait photography through a part-time job at Childress Portrait Design, one of the top portrait studios in the area. It was the time spent with the customer’s of Childress that led Sarah to the decision that her future was in portrait photography.

Life, however, had other things in mind for her at that time. While she did begin to photograph friends and family members for a very small profit, she was offered a full-time position as a commercial photographer for Arkansas Valley Feathers/Zucker Feather Products in the summer of 2006. This position gave Sarah the opportunity to hone her studio skills, work with and overcome difficult subjects and complicated lighting situations and it also allowed her to preview the often high-paced world of commercial and fashion photography. (Sarah’s commercial work for AVF/ZFP can be viewed at www.featherplace.com)

While Sarah still continues to work with AVF/ZFP, her focus has now returned to her first love, portrait and wedding photography. She has been fortunate enough to have the chance to experience weddings alongside Steve Williams, a respected wedding photographer in the Kansas City area. She has also been able to spread her wings on her own at a handful of weddings. Sarah considers it a great privilege to photograph each wedding and she cherishes the opportunity she has to share in each couple’s special day, and to be able to give let her art be a part of the history of their wedding.

This year, Sarah hopes to continue growing her client base and to simply have fun with each session and explore the possibilities she has with each client and each image.
