Recent Photo Shoot – Megan Snow

This is one image from a recent photoshoot with the beautiful Megan Snow (whom you may recognize as Ms. December from last year’s “Undergrads” swimsuit calendar). This is one image I took some time to play with. Though I have way to much work to do, I needed some photographic time to myself, and it manifested itself in the following image:

Wedding & Location – Family/Group

Final wedding & location class assignment was to work with group posing by photographing a family or other group. The following images of the Miller family are those I used for this assignment.

Wedding & Location – Alien Bee Lighting – Wesley Marsh

Sarah Jane Photography welcomes a second baby boy into our 2008 baby program. I had the chance to photograph Kristen and Josh when they were expecting their young one a couple months ago, and this weekend Wesley got his first shot in front of my camera. I look forward to seeing this handsome baby boy grow over the next year. These images are Wesley’s first with us and he was quite the trooper. Although happiest when allowed to sit in mommy’s arms with his pacifier, we got a variety of images of Wesley sans pacifier and captured a few angry screams in the process.

Photography Business Plan – Sarah Jane Photography

The majority of my time from now until the end of the semester will be taken up by my business plan project. For my “Business Management for Photographers” class we must create a complete business plan designed to help us begin our businesses upon graduation. This is a HUGE project so I am enlisting the help of any friendly visitors to my blog!!! I am working hard to find all the information for my plan including everything from market analysis to projected success and MUCH MORE!!!

So if any of YOU know any good sources for information on beginning a photography business, or general business I would greatly appreciate a quick reply with any suggestions. As a photographer (as many of you fellow photographers will relate) my strengths are in the artistic side of the business and not so much in the business side. Because of this, it is important to me that I learn as much as possible about the business side, as of course it take some great business skills to survive and prosper as a professional photographer (especially in today’s world where every soccer mom is a “photographer”).

So I’m locking myself in my office and only coming out for class and work … don’t miss me too much world I’ll be back soon (I hope).

Wedding & Location – Senior Session with Q-Flash

The latest assignment for my wedding and location class utilzes images from one of my most recent Jefferson City Seniora Sessions with Jared Hotsenpiller. I use the Quantum Q-Flash for most of my senior and other location sessions to get a little more “edge” to the images opposed to simply using existing light. For Jared’s session we were able to use much of the Hotsenpiller’s beautiful home to create some very unique and personal backdrops, as well as a few industrial warehouses and of course the beautiful Jefferson City train station. Here are a few of my favorite images from the session (ALL using the Quantum Q-Flash).

Customize your SJP experience!!!

The most recent wordpress update allows polls so here is my first (hopefully of many more to come). My business is for all of you! It is my job to create the images you have dreamed of and I can only do this with your help!

Help me customize your experience with this first poll!

Thank you in advance for your feedback!

Wedding and Location – InClass Bridal Session

The most recent in class session for my Wedding and Location Course was a bridal session with Angie in Sedalia, Missouri. These are some of my favorite images from this shoot… Check back to see a few images capturing our professor Jerry Schmidt in action as well.

Marie & Clayton Engagement – Wedding & Location

Since I will be photographing Marie & Clayton’s wedding in May, this couple was perfect for my most recent “engagement” assignement for my Wedding & Location Course taught by Jerry Schmidt. The couple wanted something a bit different as they have already had “traditional” engagement photos done, so we decided to leave Warrensburg and explore Knob Noster. We had a lot of fun along the colorful steal buildings and although the very soggy ground prevented some of our more adventurous ideas we got some great shots. The favorite hidden gem location became the old Napa Auto Parts building, which provided an array of original backdrops.

Wedding & Location In-Class using Q-Flash

While modeling for our in-class demonstration on how to use the quantum flash with softbox, the photographer in me couldn’t resist shooting back. So these are a few shots of our amazing UCM photography students in action. The images are a bit soft since I didn’t want to interrupt their shoot with my own flash. You can also see our instructor Jerry Schmidt as he reviews some of the shots we were getting.

Individual Shoot (Wed&Loc Class) – Danielle

The following are a few of my favorite images from my first Wedding and Location assignment. Danielle did a great job modeling for me over the weekend as I got back to basics, leaving behind ALL my flash and continuous lighting equipment and replacing them with a simple reflector. It was nice to get back to finding, moving and manipulating the beautiful natural life available on campus, and around Warrensburg.

In Class Shoot 8/28/08

These images were taken during wedding & location class on August 28, 2008. The focus of the demonstration was to get back to basics on location by putting the flash units away and working with available light. We used the class time to “find” and “make” the light we needed on campus with the use of some reflectors. These are my results, you can find the results of my classmates on their blogs (which can be found in my blogroll).

New Photography Students at UCM

This year I accepted a unique challenge offered to me by Coleen Fritz, a photography professor at UCM and one of my personal mentors. I will spend the next six weeks or so assisting Coleen with the AE 1400 (Freshmen Seminar for Photographers) course. I will soon introduce you to these up and coming photographers through my blog where I will connect you to their posts and update you to our projects.

Today I had the opportunity to introduce this year’s UCM freshmen photography majors to the wonderful world of wordpress (and flickr). I’m sure we can all expect to see great things from these students as they are the future successful photographers of the world, and now you can find their great and ever-improving work here on wordpress!!!

The students will soon be posting a “welcome” post including one of their favorite personal images, and I will be adding a post containing the links to all of their blogs so you can check them out for yourselves!

It is very important to me to continue to “hand down” any knowledge I gain in the realm of photography. So while I am still young and always learning I am always happy to share my knowledge and hopefully help the next class of photographers outperform ours!!! Lets raise the bar in the photography field!

Senior Portraits – Jefferson City Missouri – Advanced Color Portrait Senior Assignment

My most recent advanced color portrait assignment was one of the most fun. Senior portraits are my true passion and my first love in photography. I had a blast hanging out with Danielle (and my new assistant Allysa). We spend the afternoon checking out new shooting locations in the Jefferson City area, starting with the basics of the governor’s garden, railroad station, and then heading down to the industrial park to get some edgier portraits (my favorite).

Here are a few of my favorite images from the session (it was hard to pick just a few favorites). Click here to view more images from this session!

Wedding Album Designs – Jefferson City Wedding Photography

My most recent advanced color portrait assignment helped me get a jump start on my sample wedding album. The following two album layouts are the first of 10 page spreads that will end up in my studio’s first sample album. In my 2008 wedding price list, I offer a variety of square albums from 5×5 parent albums to 10×10 coffee table albums.

I eventually hope to but together a set of my favorite layouts to market to other photographers who want to spend more time behind the camera than in front of the computer. Also, I will soon be putting together a senior pressbook so look for those layouts to come!

Recent Arkansas Valley Feathers Commercial Photo Shoot – High Key Child Assignment

Here are some of my favorite images from my recent photo shoot for Arkansas Valley Feathers/Zucker Feather Products. These are a few from the children’s portion of the shoot and there will be more to come from the adult portion. These also happen to fit in with my most recent advanced color portrait assignment – high key (white background) children.

Beautiul Baby Girl – High Key Child Portrait (Adv Portrait Class)

Today, I had the chance to photograph this beautiful baby girl. Although she was not too thrilled with the idea of getting her portraits done, we had a good time anyways. She smiled off camera, but not so much on camera, she was quite the diva and is bound to break some hearts in years to come.

These images also fulfill my latest advanced portrait assignment to photograph a child/baby on high key (white background). I will soon be posting another set of high key children’s portraits from my commercial/advertising photo shoot this weekend

Advanced Color Portrait – Male Portraits

In my advanced color portrait class it became apparent that many of us were falling into the trap of only photographing young beautiful women, so it was no surprise when we were given the assignment to shoot a male portrait to challenge ourselves. My answer to this challenge came in a fun high-energy photo shoot with Greg. Greg brings his high-energy personality to every situation and this was no exception, so I took advantage of my willing model to try some off the wall ideas including: in-air action shots, James Bond “hand gun” moves, and strong-man bike tosses.

I’m extremely happy with the variety of images I got from this shoot and look forward to continuing to challenge myself to think outside the border of traditional photography.

Couple Portraits by Sarah Jane Photography

img_2418_eyes.jpg

My most recent assignment for Advanced Color Portrait class was to photograph a couple…these are my favorite images from my shoot with Carlie and Tyler. I had a blast hanging out with them in the studio. They were fun and laid back and we experimented with some new ideas. One of these new ideas was using a architecture lens to create multiple planes in a single image allowing selective focus (shown in the black and white image focused on their hands).

Krista & Courtney – Beauty Light Assignment

When my model had to cancel at the last minute, these two beautiful ladies stepped in to save the day. And the result was a collection of beautiful images. We had a great time working with a beautiful lighting setup that is more in line with my style than the previous “grid spot” assignment. And this last-minute model switch led to some of my favorite images.
