After touring all three floors of this historic downtown building and taking a peek back into it’s history, I cannot wait to see what’s in store for it next. Kemper gave us a full tour and was getting his hands on the dry ice blasting equipment when we left saying that though they estimated 14 days for this portion of the project, they get work DONE and he hoped for it to be done in 10 (that’s my kind of work ethic right there).
I’m excited to look in on them next week for some ‘during’ images and then head back when the work is done to show off what Continental Carbonic’s dry ice blasting can do to restore life back to their building.
Here are just a couple images from my day at Del’s (just a peek outside for now!).
As a photographer, I often work for compensation that comes outside the form of money. This month, I got a call from Thrive’s publisher, and friend, Katrina Smalley asking how I felt about working for beer and coffee. My reply was something along the lines of ‘LOVE IT, tell me more!’
The result was that I got to spend a couple hours over the course of a couple days at both McGorrays Golf & Grill and Wildflower Artisan Bakery photographing (and then drinking) both beer and coffee.
Below are just a few images from these fun sessions.
Jennifer was one of the first Decatur ladies to take advantage of our Valentines Day Boudoir Special this year! She opted to take the session experience to the next level adding professional hair and makeup! Jennifer was an absolute blast to work with and these images are just a few of my favorites from her session.
Jennifer was also featured in our February THRIVE ad:
A couple weeks ago, I photographed Rachael & Nick. This was an awesome session. Though we were out at about 9 AM on a brisk November morning, they both were troopers and hung in there with me through the whole session. We explored a new location and I quickly fell in love with the looks we were creating. The lighting was beautiful, and these two were a blast to photograph.
Editing this session was a nightmare! There were just too many I loved. I met with Judi, their mother, today for the session premier and she quickly fell in love with the images too. Hearing “these are probably the best images taken of my kids… ever” is just what every photographer wants to hear!
We are busy planning a couple of statement wall pieces for their home and after Christmas the family will be working with me to fit the perfect custom framed pieces into their home. (With complementary installation of course). I am so excited to now be a part of this families home, and I hope very much to be able to watch them grow in the coming years.
Here are just a few of my favorite images from the session (it was so hard to even narrow it down to my 20 favorites, so this is just a SMALL selection of our favorites)!
Sunday was Ryan’s sister Rachel’s birthday and she got surprised with a BRAND NEW 2011 KIA SOUL!!! The Shorthose’s are all riding stylishly now 🙂 We had a great weekend with his family!
Now back to work. Finished up the commercial work for Little Barks today and we got some GREAT images (check back soon to see those), PLUS stay tuned for post later today to find out how you could win a FREE child session plus Wall Art featuring your child’s name ($1000 VALUE!!). 🙂 More big thing coming this week!
Dusting off my commercial boots this week. Tomorrow I am meeting with a local business in Decatur to discuss some of her photography needs, so today I was digging through some of the images I did for Arkansas Valley Feathers/Zucker Feather Company and ran across this one when inspiration hit! Isn’t it funny how an image can be “ordinary” when shot but later when you look again you see something you never noticed before.
My morning was babies, babies, babies! When approached by a local in-home daycare to plan a shoot-day at the daycare my first reaction was sheer terror! Could I handle six babies under 3-years-old let alone make beautiful images of them? I quickly decided to jump in and accept the challenge. And the result….
I had a blast spending 2 hours with these high energy and beautiful babies and produced some of my favorite new images. Here are a few:

I am so excited about starting another new year and new and exciting adventures with the business! I already have some great new options lined up for 2010 brides two of the biggest additions being a live photo booth and my associate program! Here is a preview of both new ideas.
Photo Booth: Brides are all concerned with making sure their guests are well fed, well entertained and happy at the reception. Well the photo booth ensures that your guests will not spend a single moment sitting in their seats.
What is it: The photo booth is a mini studio set up at your reception hall where all your guests can have a great time being goofy in front of the camera and getting some fun and beautiful images of themselves, their friends and their family while everyone is together. Goofy hats and props themed to your wedding colors make the experience even more unique!
Plus: Want to really impress your guests with a personal “party favor” opt for the guest gift option and you can give each of your guests a professionally framed image of themselves as a party favor!!! It will have them talking about your event for years!!!
I am also really excited about my associate photographer program. What does this mean for 2010 brides? Now every bride, no matter the budget, can get the SJP wedding experience. Have your engagement, bridal and boudoir sessions with me (Sarah) and have your wedding day covered by one of my hand-picked professional associate photographers for only $150/hour (3 hour minimum). This is a HUGE savings and a great way to get a professional experience within a smaller budget. Budget product line is coming soon!! Call to book today, DATES/SPACES ARE LIMITED!
I had an amazing session with Alicia last weekend. Favorite location, great evening (afternoon now) light and beautiful senior all combine to create some of my favorite images. Here are just a few (it took me a long time to narrow it down to just these). These are the images that will be featured on her senior model cards (that is why they are so tall and skinny)… Those interested in being senior models call, email or TEXT me. You get some unique little cards, each featuring a different image of you and each worth $10 in print credit for you and a friend when you refer a new client!!! 🙂
I had a blast photographing my first senior from Linn high school. Quinton was awesome to photograph and we had a great time. I love being able to use locations with meaning to my clients and we definitely accomplished that on Quinton’s session shooting at both his high school and his church. Here are two of my favorite images!
Last weekend was a full weekend for SJP! One of my favorite shoots of the weekend was with Stacia (a friend of mine from elementary school!). We took Stacia out to one of my favorite locations to try out some new areas and got a lot of great shots!
Here are just a couple images from my most recent wedding in downtown Kansas City. I love photographing in KC, the hotels, churches and reception halls are all so beautiful. I am moving toward making my photographs more than just camera generated images. You will notice overlays like the one in this image in more of my recent work. To me it makes them art not just images. As always I appreciate feedback so let me know what you think of the latest look.

My New Year’s Resolutions have officially crumbled. Though I planned to post every week I have failed to even get every month covered! Things are winding down now as the Spring semester ends and I am finally able to breath (well after next week anyway).
Though this semester, I have proved that my life can get busier and crazier than it was last semester I have had some amazing opportunities in the past few months, and I hope to share my experiences with you all! For one, I had the opportunity to teach a couple classes this semester for one of my favorite professors, Tom Mitchell. My next post will showcase the information that I shared with his class and you can view it on my “For Photographers” page HERE.
I also had the opportunity to work with an amazing woman, Jan MacLaughlin, to get a start on my “Beautiful Strength” breast cancer project. I will post a few images from this shoot VERY soon. Jan was amazing to work with and her story touched my heart as I am sure it will touch yours. She has two beautiful boys and a loving husband and the family is quite a force to be reckoned with and with them fighting together, her cancer has no chance.
Personally, this semester has been one to remember as well. After a year out of eachother’s lives my best friend and I found our way back to each other. As I am sure most ladies will agree, no relationship parallels that between you and your best girl friend. We are and forever will be sisters at heart and I am happy to have my back! Recently, we came to the conclusion that at graduation we would have to decide on future plans together because we are not sure we can live in separate houses again let alone separate cities or states. God truly does give you the people you need when you need them.
My business has found success this year as well. The artist in me still struggles to tap into the accountant in me as I trudge through taxes, bookkeeping and filing but I will keep on keeping-on as always. I am happy to have almost ten new brides in the SJP family and am excited to be working on some great new products and programs.
Thank you for stoping by, and hang with me there is more to come!!!
Sarah Jane Photography welcomes a second baby boy into our 2008 baby program. I had the chance to photograph Kristen and Josh when they were expecting their young one a couple months ago, and this weekend Wesley got his first shot in front of my camera. I look forward to seeing this handsome baby boy grow over the next year. These images are Wesley’s first with us and he was quite the trooper. Although happiest when allowed to sit in mommy’s arms with his pacifier, we got a variety of images of Wesley sans pacifier and captured a few angry screams in the process.
The latest assignment for my wedding and location class utilzes images from one of my most recent Jefferson City Seniora Sessions with Jared Hotsenpiller. I use the Quantum Q-Flash for most of my senior and other location sessions to get a little more “edge” to the images opposed to simply using existing light. For Jared’s session we were able to use much of the Hotsenpiller’s beautiful home to create some very unique and personal backdrops, as well as a few industrial warehouses and of course the beautiful Jefferson City train station. Here are a few of my favorite images from the session (ALL using the Quantum Q-Flash).
The most recent wordpress update allows polls so here is my first (hopefully of many more to come). My business is for all of you! It is my job to create the images you have dreamed of and I can only do this with your help!
Help me customize your experience with this first poll!
The most recent in class session for my Wedding and Location Course was a bridal session with Angie in Sedalia, Missouri. These are some of my favorite images from this shoot… Check back to see a few images capturing our professor Jerry Schmidt in action as well.
Since I will be photographing Marie & Clayton’s wedding in May, this couple was perfect for my most recent “engagement” assignement for my Wedding & Location Course taught by Jerry Schmidt. The couple wanted something a bit different as they have already had “traditional” engagement photos done, so we decided to leave Warrensburg and explore Knob Noster. We had a lot of fun along the colorful steal buildings and although the very soggy ground prevented some of our more adventurous ideas we got some great shots. The favorite hidden gem location became the old Napa Auto Parts building, which provided an array of original backdrops.
I am currently working on design ideas for the new Sarah Jane Photography LLCbusiness cards. This is the current Front and Back design options and I would love your feedback! I am still toying with a few other options that I hope to get up here soon but in the mean time please leave a comment to let me know what you think!!
